SUMMARY:VOLUNTEER: National Public Lands Day at Zion
DESCRIPTION:“Conserve Southwest Utah volunteers will join Zion National Park staff in a project to remove non-native tamarisk from the banks of the Virgin River in a selected location of the park. We will carpool from locations in St George\, LaVerkin\, and Virgin as early as 7:00 am to meet at the Zion Nature Center parking area by 8:00 am for project details. Hand tools (saws\, loppers\, clippers) and some gloves will be provided. Bring a pair of gloves and shoes or boots that you can get wet while working on the riverbank. Volunteers will cut and hand carry stems away from the river. NPS staff will treat cut stumps with herbicide to prevent resprouts. Children may help on the project but will require parental supervision. \n \nWe plan to work until noon\, then break for lunch in Springdale. CSU will provide lunch for all volunteers who register before September 24.”
